Imagine him & Doak: Ipswich targeting “incredible” star in club-record move
Ipswich Town’s recent Premier League performances have demonstrated their fighting spirit, with an unexpected home win against Chelsea and a hard 2-2 draw at Fulham.
While there has been much speculation in January about Liam Delap leaving the relegation-threatened outfit, there have also been many reports linking Ipswich with some notable incomings.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Tractor Boys are interested in signing Botafogo attacker Igor Jesus for £30 million this month. Everton is also apparently interested, despite being near the bottom of the league.

While it may appear that Ipswich are bracing for the worst in terms of Delap’s fate, Jesus’ arrival makes sense as they want to improve McKenna’s options up top, away from George Hirst and Ali Al-Hamadi, who are currently at Portman Road.
McKenna sees a potential match between the Tractor Boys and Liverpool’s youthful winger Ben Doak, as well as the costly South American.
Doak, on loan from Liverpool, has been a standout in the Championship this season, with two goals and six assists at Middlesbrough. He is also known for his ability to break down defenses and make single runs up the pitch.
McKenna may see the Scotsman as a potential replacement for Omari Hutchinson, as he has achieved 10 goals and six assists in lower leagues before moving to the Premier League. He can play on either wing.

While Doak would undoubtedly improve the Tractor Boys’ midfield, with Wes Burns the only recognised option down the right due to injuries, Jesus would also provide McKenna with another option to fall back on if Delap has a rare off-day, as he has done at Shabab Al-Ahli.
In 2024, football journalist Zach Lowy praised the Brazilian’s “incredible” performance in the Middle East, leading to an international call-up due to his impressive goal-scoring record.
Both players entering the building in January might provide McKenna with the attacking depth he seeks, making the Tractor Boys an even more dangerous prospect going forward as they attempt to surprise more clubs in their ongoing battle to avoid relegation. The possibility of the two combining forces in an attack should excite the crowd at Portman Road.
