Exclusive: Fulham ‘will be charged’ over Wilson incident v Ipswich.

Keith Hackett expects Fulham to face an FA charge following Harry Wilson’s heated tirade at Darren Bond and his teammates’ reaction against Ipswich.

The former PGMOL chairman and ex-FIFA official exclusively informed Football Insider that the Cottagers could face sanctions for the way their players encircled the referee during the game. There were numerous incidents in the 2-2 draw with the Tractor Boys at Craven Cottage on Sunday (5 January) that left Marco Silva’s team furious. Hackett has now warned that the manner the hosts’ players behaved to those occurrences may result in further fallout from this encounter for Fulham to cope with.

Fulham could be set for FA charge over player reactions to referee decisions

While they were refused one penalty against Kieran McKenna’s team, the hosts were granted two more in this game. The first came for Fulham after Wilson was hauled down in the area by Sam Morsy, but only after VAR interfered, and Bond did not make the call on the pitch at first. Silva did not hold back his opinion on the referee after the game, nor did his attacker in this particular event. After Bond initially refused Wilson’s penalty, the attacker was seen passionately shouting and pointing at the referee.

Despite the regulations against dissent, the Fulham player did not receive a booking for his antics, yet Hackett feels his team may face penalty as a result of their acts during the game. When questioned by Football Insider if Wilson was fortunate not to be booked for his response to not initially being granted the penalty, the former referee said: “Wilson not only made a public appeal but also ran to the referee, which is a show of dissent. So, in my opinion, he should have received a yellow card.

“Then he was surrounded by other players so I’m of the belief that will be charged, Fulham, for failing to control their players, because it didn’t look good.

“It happened on several occasions. What Darren Bond could have done was pull out his yellow card and demonstrate some power.” Fulham face Championship side Watford in the third round of the FA Cup on Thursday night (9 January). Wilson has had an impressive season for the Cottagers, scoring five goals in 16 Premier League games and making significant contributions as a substitute.
