Blackburn Rovers have received no approach for John Eustace from West Brom, the Lancashire Telegraph has reported.
Blackburn Rovers have far exceeded expectations this season, and much of that success can be attributed to manager John Eustace’s great work.
The 45-year-old came to Ewood Park in February 2024 with a purpose to prove. He was controversially fired by Birmingham City and arrived with the responsibility of leading Rovers to safety in the face of relegation to League One.
Eustace accomplished exactly that, but with Sammie Szmodics leaving in the summer, many considered the former Premier League champions as potential relegation candidates. That could not have been further from the truth, with Blackburn Rovers sitting seventh and firmly in contention for the play-offs.
Eustace’s work has received a great deal of attention, and there have been numerous links to movements away. West Brom are the most recent club to be linked with a move, but the Lancashire Telegraph has provided an update on his current status.
They claim that Blackburn Rovers have yet to receive any official approaches for Eustace, even from the Baggies.
Coventry City and Hull City contemplated moves following their respective management changes, but never confirmed their interest, while West Brom have yet to do the same.
Reassuring for Rovers fans
With rumors about prospective moves for Eustace rife, Blackburn Rovers will be relieved to learn that, while interest has developed, no one has made a concrete offer to get him away from Ewood Park at this time.
Of course, this is all subject to change, but in the meantime, they may breathe a sigh of relief with West Brom the most recent link.
However, it appears that additional speculation is just around the corner. Not only is Eustace performing admirably in Lancashire, but he is only under contract until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
If this continues, you can’t help but believe that other teams will become aware of his condition.
The task ahead
Blackburn Rovers face an uphill battle for a play-off position. Those surrounding them have received more investment in recent transfer windows than in previous years, and few expected them to be in this position.
However, success establishes new standards, and it is anticipated that the levels demonstrated in the first half of the season can be maintained in the coming weeks and months.
That will be difficult, but Eustace will be motivated to continue getting the best out of his squad. A successful winter transfer window will help the manager reinforce his ranks.
On the pitch, emphasis shifts to the FA Cup this weekend, with a trip to Middlesbrough looming. They then face Portsmouth at home in their rescheduled Championship match on Wednesday.
