Beale brought Cifuentes to Ibrox in the summer as part of the club’s rebuilding efforts, but the manager was fired as a result of his poor performance.

Beale, who is back in the game at Sunderland, is still a fan of Cifuentes, and his interest was piqued when he learned Rangers were looking to move him on.

The Black Cats boss personally rang Cifuentes to sell a move to Sunderland to the midfielder.

Cifuentes, on the other hand, turned down his former Rangers manager and went on loan to Cruzeiro in Brazil.

The midfielder struggled to impress new Rangers manager Philippe Clement, and the Gers were willing to let him go.

Cifuentes will attempt to make a mark in Brazil with Cruzeiro, where he hopes to get the regular playing time he lacked under Clement at Ibrox.

It remains to be seen whether the Ecuadorian can work his way back into Clement’s plans with a successful loan in Brazil.http://sportupdates.co.uk
