After Jacob Greaves suffered an injury, the defender has been a mainstay for the Blues in recent weeks. On

Thursday, he started for Tony Popovic’s team in their 0-0 tie with Saudi Arabia.

He maintained his position with a strong defensive effort, and the Socceroos got off to a quick start as Kusini Yengi

opened the score in the opening minute of play.

Bahrain appeared the most dangerous, despite the fact that the visitors controlled the most of the ball. In the 75th

minute, substitute Mahdi Abduljabbar Hassan equalized after Burgess made a poor touch, picking up the ball and

taking a long-range shot. He made it 1-1 by catching goalie Mathew Ryan off his line.

After a careless backward header from Sydney FC teenager Hayden Matthews in the 77th minute, Hassan scored

once more to give his team the lead.

Yengi saved Socceroos, though, as he equalized in the 96th minute to keep his team in second place in their World

Cup qualifying group with seven points from six games, which is one victory, one loss, and four draws.

They have four games left to qualify for the tournament in 2026, commencing with a home match against third-place

Indonesia, led by Elkan Baggott, in March 2025. Only a top-two finish will ensure that.

In other news, Youssef Amyn’s goal in the first half gave Iraq a 1-0 victory in Oman, and Ali Al-Hamadi was not used

as a substitute. In their World Cup qualification group, Jesus Casas’ team is in second position, two points ahead of

third-place Jordan and three points behind leaders South Korea.

On December 22, the Lions of Mesopotamia will play again in the Gulf Cup against Yemen.

The Ipswich players’ international break comes to an end with these two games, and everyone will be watching

Sunday’s showdown against Manchester United.

Everyone has been reported to be totally fit, with the exception of Omari Hutchinson, who was sidelined for England

Under-21 international duty due to a slight knock sustained during the 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
