Sky Sports West Brom new manager: Marti Cifuentes name thrown up after QPR development

Sky Sports West Brom new manager: Marti Cifuentes name thrown up after QPR development.

West Brom should make a bid for QPR manager Marti Cifuentes after the Loftus Road club defeated Watford, according to Joe Chapman.

The Spanish manager led his team to a 3-1 victory on New Year’s Day (1 January) and is six points clear of the relegation zone before visiting Luton Town on Monday (6 January). He has yet to be connected with the Baggies position since Carlos Corberan left for Valencia on Christmas Eve, but Chapman would prefer to see an approach made.

Responding to a post about the Hoops manager potentially being on the shortlist, the journalist said in a post on X: “He’d be right towards the top of my wishlist, finances permitting.”

Cifuentes would be a good hire for West Brom

The 42-year-old has a victory percentage of 32.79 at Loftus Road, but this does not tell the whole story regarding his management ability. Last season, the Spanish manager used a pragmatic approach to bring Rangers to safety, ensuring survival with one game remaining and six points clear of the relegation zone. Albion have a lot superior group than the one he now coaches, and Cifuentes may be able to bring out the best in them.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan
In his time at Hammarby in Sweden, he used a possession-based strategy that was both defensively sound and fluent in attack, and this is arguably a better example of what his hypothetical Baggies team would look like. It would be an interesting appointment since, despite a poor tenure at a struggling Championship side, his stock has not dropped. He is undoubtedly a long shot for the position at The Hawthorns, but he is exactly the type of gamble that Albion should be searching for.
