Oscar Cortes might make his Rangers debut against Livingston this weekend if he receives international

clearance, according to Luke Shanley.

The Sky Sports writer revealed live on 1 February, after the youngster’s arrival was confirmed,

that he may join Philippe Clement’s side for the SPFL match at Ibrox on 3 February.

He joins Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande as winter signings to Philippe Clement’s Light Blues

roster.

Shanley stated, “I can confirm that Rangers have signed Oscar Cortes on loan from Lens in France,

with the option to buy. The 20-year-old winger has already represented Colombia,

having been capped against Iraq in June.

“He is one that will come in to that Rangers team,

and subject to international clearance could make his debut against Livingston at Ibrox this weekend.”

Fast start.

Given Clement’s injury difficulties in attack,

it would be beneficial if his last reinforcement was available right immediately.

If he does not receive international clearance in time,

the winger’s deal being closed so close to the deadline will be frustrating given that the move was

expected throughout the final week.

Abdallah Sima is expected to be absent for the foreseeable future,

and Cortes has been tipped to play an important role in filling the void left by the Brighton loan player.

Rangers have established some excellent momentum under their second manager of the season,

despite the disappointing setback against Celtic, and keeping it is certainly critical.

The squad still appears to be short on striker options,

with Danilo and Kemar Roofe both out long-term on top of Sima.

It’s a gamble to rely on the frustrating-but-improving Cyriel Dessers, a pair of teenage loanees in Cortes

and Silva,

plus some inconsistent or inexperienced additional offensive possibilities like Rabbi Matondo and Ross

McCausland to win any more trophies this year.

So, if they pull it off, the season will be outstanding under unexpected circumstances.
