Surprised’ – Journalist shares Barisic summer exit verdict at Rangers amid Ibrox transfer news-Ibrox News

Rangers transfer news as Derek Clark shares Borna Barisic Ibrox exit update.

Derek Clark has confessed that he would be “surprised” if Borna Barisic extended his contract with Rangers beyond the end of the season.

Philippe Clement isn’t exactly spoiled for left-back choices at Ibrox right now, but the Light Blues have managed to keep Ridvan Yilmaz throughout the January transfer window, despite widespread interest in the Turkish international [Sky Sports, 1 February].

However, one defender now appears sure to leave Glasgow at the end of the season, with Rangers Review journalist Clark claiming that Barisic is unlikely to be offered a new contract and will be one of many to leave Ibrox at the conclusion of the season.

On the Rangers Review YouTube channel (1 February, 21:15), the speaker stated that while Borna has been a valuable member of the team, he is unlikely to be offered a new contract.

“I think he will be one of a number of players that depart in the summer, but I am quite content with the left-back situation.”

Makes sense

Barisic has been a good servant to Rangers throughout his tenure in Scotland, but there comes a moment when it is best for all parties for players to leave a football club, and that appears to be the case with the Croatian international.

Yilmaz has rapidly established himself as the Gers’ first-choice left-back, and if the Turkish defender is fit, Clement will almost certainly start him every week.

Rangers couldn’t afford to let the 32-year-old depart this month, owing to a lack of other choices at Ibrox and ongoing uncertainty about Yilmaz’s long-term prospects.

But now that the 22-year-old’s future is clear and the Gers will have more money to buy during the summer window, the Light Blues have little reason to extend Barisic’s stay beyond this season.
