Leeds United’s right-back Rasmus Kristensen is enjoying his time at Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, and the Bundesliga club would like to keep him permanently.
Leeds’ failure to achieve promotion this season meant that two of last season’s loanees were able to continue leaving the club on a temporary basis this season.
Jack Harrison is at Everton, and Rasmus Kristensen has joined Eintracht Frankfurt, where he appears to be doing well.
Kristensen’s first season in the Bundesliga is going well; he is third in the table after ten games, six points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, and has the league’s second highest goal total of 26.
Bild now reports that the right-back’s loan arrangement with Eintracht includes a €15 million (£12.5 million) buy option.
The Dane joined Leeds in the summer of 2022 from Jesse Marsch’s former club Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of £10 million.
Leeds could be aiming to get a fair return on their PSR calculations with Kristensen, who signed a five-year contract until 2027, is in his third amortised year, and has a book value of roughly £4 million.
Eintracht looking to low-ball Leeds by avoiding £12.5m buy option
According to the same report, Eintracht is hoping to sign Kristensen in the near future as the January transfer window approaches, but will not activate their buy option.
According to reports, the German club would want a sum “well below €10 million” (£8.3 million) to keep the Danish international on long-term contract.
Quotes shared from club CEO Markus Krösche underline their intent to keep Kristensen there long-term, though:
“We are totally happy with him, he is a significant part of the group. He has brought in a winning mentality and aggression. He’s someone who pushes the youngsters and supports them positively, but also gives them a hard time. Rasmus is extremely important for us.”
If Leeds are not promoted, they have little power to negotiate a high sum for the right-back, but they should wait until the end of the season to see what the scenario is.
We’re hoping to go up this season and appear to be in good place to do so, so Kristensen could end up being a nice value in the market.
If Eintracht wants to speed up the process by reaching an agreement now, they may have to pay a fee considerably closer to the buy option, as we are not under any pressure.
