Danny Ings to Celtic transfer rumour explodes but champion Brendan Rodgers could have his answer amid 3 hurdles

Celtic supporters are eager to see at least one new player join the team as the conclusion of the January window draws near; Danny Ings is the most recent player to be mentioned in this regard.

The speculation that the out-of-favor West Ham striker might spend six months in the Scottish Premiership has picked up steam. According to The Mirror, multiple teams will try to test the Hammers’ resolve to get the England cap out of the London Stadium before the window closes. The 31-year-old has not yet scored a goal for the team this season and has only been a member of David Moyes’ bench; nonetheless, he has Brendan Rodgers as a vital ally.

Rodgers brought Ings to Liverpool during his tenure as boss – and despite an injury-plagued spell at Anfield the Irishman has confessed to keeping tabs on the striker throughout his career. Before going on to enjoy a successful spell at Aston Villa, Ings kickstarted his career by leaving Merseyside for Southampton.

That form saw him earn a recall to the England squad – and the then-Leicester boss led the plaudits. He said at the time: “Danny had a bad injury as a young player at Bournemouth, he came through that to Burnley before coming to Liverpool. It’s just great that he is back playing, and playing consistently, he’ll be a better player for it as well, for his experiences at Liverpool and what he gained there.

However, manager Moyes doesn’t seem to be in a rush to let Ings go, saying earlier this month that the player must accrue more Premier League playing time. “There are circumstances that have affected the situation, but Danny has played his part and has probably wanted more minutes than we’ve been able to offer him,” the speaker stated.

“If you look at the forward players’ form, Jarrod Bowen has had a difficult time, and we have Michail Antonio as one of them. However, all things considered, Danny Ings is a pretty terrific player and professional to deal with. Can he make it work? That’s perhaps a question better suited for Danny Ings than for me.
