A report claims that Gustaf Lagerbielke’s departure from Celtic via transfer has halted.

The Swedish center defender had been strongly linked to a Serie A loan move to Lecce.

It was also anticipated that the agreement would contain a buyout clause that would allow the 23-year-old to leave Glasgow permanently.

Sky Sports, however, asserts that the teams have not yet finalized a transfer agreement for this month.

Lagerbielke reportedly had plans to depart Celtic in order to finish his medical in Italy, but first the team needed to “find a breakthrough” in their talks.

It’s reported Genoa are also interested in Lagerbielke – who only joined Celtic in the summer – with the Italian side watching his situation this month.

Last month, John Kennedy, an assistant for Celtic, acknowledged that a few of the team’s center defenders might depart in January.

He clarified, saying, “We have a lot of players in this position. A few players may need to leave in January in order to play elsewhere, which will require them to make some roster cuts.

“If anything, we’re carrying a lot of numbers, so there will be a lot on the periphery who we just need to go and get game-time or maybe move on. Everyone will have their own agenda on that.

“When it comes to it, there’s going to be four or five centre-backs in every squad, and at that point, it’s a case of competing with each other and pushing each other and being ready to step in whenever you’re called upon.

“Stephen Welsh played last night; he hadn’t played since the early part of the season due to an unlucky ankle injury. He appeared out of nowhere and gave an excellent performance in the manner that he did. You need to be prepared for the possibility of injuries or suspensions.

“Cameron is a key member of our team and has shown the greatest consistency throughout the years. Everyone sees it, I believe, but things vary from week to week. You must be prepared for the game and give the squad your best from the moment you enter the field.”
