I want to follow in the footsteps of Steven Davis with Rangers and Northern Ireland: Ross McCausland

“Everyone who supports either Rangers or Northern Ireland looks up to Davo because of what he has achieved in his career, and the type of person he is. It’s big boots to fill, but I want to have the same sort of impact he has had. I want to achieve things.”Reflecting on his season so far, McCausland said: “Game time on a regular basis is something I’ve always wanted, so I’ve done my best to make an impact.“To get to this point, I’ve had to stay patient and believe in myself. I made my debut against Hearts in 2022 and then had to wait a year for my next, against Hibs. The Glasgow giants have been linked to Lens winger Oscar Cortes. However, McCausland is not worried that the Colombian star will steal his place in the team.He said: “If the club want to bring players in, in my position, then that’s a good thing. It’s more competition and competition drives a player on. When a new player arrives you welcome them with open arms and make them feel like part of the family.”While McCausland is determined to garner more first team appearances for Rangers in 2024, he’s also desperate to establish himself as a fully-fledged member of O’Neill’s international squad.

“I’ve only got one cap so far, so I want to add to that and to make an impact for my country.“International football is very different from club football, for me. At Rangers, I’m playing for a team that has a lot of possession while with Northern Ireland you can go long periods of play without the ball. You need to be able to adapt to different style and different formations.”
