Celtic target ‘at least’ two more January signings as ‘most likely marketplace’ named

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly hoping to add other players before Deadline Day arrives, as the January transfer market closes on Thursday.

With less than 48 hours left in the January transfer market, Celtic and Rangers are attempting to wrap up their business for the month.

Since the Ibrox club has been more active than the other team, there are rumors that they are almost finalizing a deal to sign Oscar Cortes, a Colombian winger. While this is going on, the Hoops across the city have just recruited German winger Nicolas Kuhn, but new rumors indicate that fans may see some further faces.

The Scottish champions are anticipated to give priority to a left back and a striker, and trades may soon take place, according to the Daily Mail via the Glasgow Evening Times. According to the article, Brenda Rodgers intends to sign “at least two more” players before the window closes.

It is also claimed that the ‘most likely marketplace’ will be England and that loan players will be the targets. Celtic brought in centre back Nat Phillips from Liverpool in the summer but he has since returned to Anfield after failing to make an impact during his loan spell in Glasgow’s east end.

Though there are clear connections, Owen Beck, Phillips’ Liverpool teammate, won’t be making the move. After making an impression at Premiership opponents Dundee in the first half of the season, the defender was linked to both the Hoops and Rangers for a potential January transfer. However, he has since made appearances for his parent club and is ready to return at Dens Park for the remainder of the 2023–24 campaign.

England-based attacker Joe Gelhardt of Leeds United is another player that Celtic is reportedly interested in this month. Glasgow has been mentioned as a potential destination for the England youth international, who might go on loan from Elland Road this month. However, when these rumors first surfaced a few weeks ago, they have been viewed with skepticism.
