Ex-Celtic hero ‘agrees’ transfer to English Premier League giants

A former Celtic star is set for a move to the English Premier League just seven months after departing Scotland.

Less than a year after leaving Glasgow, former Celtic forward Jota is about to put an end to his nightmare in Saudi Arabia by finalizing a move to the English Premier League.

The Portuguese star signed a massive £25 million deal to leave Celtic Park and join Al-Ittihad in the summer, but he has only appeared in five league games for the team after losing favor with former boss Nuno Espirito Santo. Due to the club’s decision to not register the player, he is no longer a member of the squad and can only be used in AFC Champions League and Club World Cup fixtures.

But the 24-year-old former Hoops hero looks like he’s about to put an end to his ordeal in Saudi Arabia and ultimately join West Ham United in the English Premier League, as many had predicted would happen following his stellar performance during his time in Scotland. Reputable Foot Mercato reporter Sani Aouna reports that after recent productive negotiations, a deal between the player and David Moyes’ team is almost a “full agreement.”

Though Jota has been largely unwelcome since joining the club and is currently “awaiting the green light” to travel to London for a medical and finalize the move, the Saudi club brought in a number of big names in the summer, including Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante. Despite this, the team has struggled for form and currently sits seventh in the Saudi Pro League.

The Hammers were also connected to a move for Ibrahim Osman, but it is stated that FC Nordsjaelland turned down an offer of £16 million. Meanwhile, it is said that Sunderland’s Jack Clarke was a target for the Hammers, but the London team decided to go for Jota instead of the rumored target.

According to sports journalist Ben Jacobs, the move could be a complicated move to pull off, citing a ‘tax situation’ as a ‘complicating factor’ – even if the deal is only a loan. Jacobss claims Saudi sources insist Jota’s wage is not the widely-reported £190k-per-week and is actually ‘half that number’, though Al-Ittihad have will require the Hammers to cover 100% of the player’s wages. He added ‘further clarity’ on Jota’s move to West Ham is expected later today.
