“Even when playing for Rangers” – Youngster says Celtic is his ‘dream’ club, could be set for tug-of-war over choice at national level

Youngster claims Celtic is his “dream” team, “even when playing for Rangers.” There may be a power struggle for selection at the national level.

Although 16-year-old Robert Rachwal is still a member of the club’s youth teams, his name may not signify much to Celtic supporters right now. However, given that he has previously played for Rangers, the club’s bitter rivals, he could be someone to watch in the future on both the club and international stages.

The Polish-born midfielder, who is thrilled to be at Celtic Park after leaving the team that Philippe Clement now manages, is a target for the Scottish FA.

The fact that the child has been residing in the UK since he was six months old is something they hope to capitalize on, as Rachwal’s early football career was marked by a combination of Rangers and Celtic, as reported in Prezglad Sportowy’s profile on Monday.

In 2005, Rachwal’s mother returned to Poland to give birth to Robert, and the family relocated to Scotland.

Upon their return, there was no question in mind that , a Celtic was the family’s team,s he and his father ‘went to Celtic matches together and played in a nearby park in the evenings’, eventually attending the club’s training sessions ‘every Sunday at the club’s centre in Lennoxtown’.

Despite this, his first move into academy football came at Rangers, thanks to the help of Ross Lyon, now captain of Clyde FC, who, as a teenager, spotted the talent Rachwal was displaying and informed his grandfather, Brian Adams.

“Suddenly an hour later, a Rangers scout appeared on the pitch,” his father said to Przeglad Sportowy. Although my son wasn’t old enough to enroll in the academy, he piqued his curiosity. At that point, Adams intervened and made an effort to persuade him to ignore Robert’s advanced age. That was its origin.

Rachwal played for the Scotland youngsters Club, where Celtic noticed him, and joined Rangers’ Under-8s, which included youngsters two years older than him.

After he relocated, Andrzej, his grandfather, welcomed him and said, “You have crossed over to the good side.”

Rachwal stated to the publication, “Celtic has always been my fantasy Scottish team. I cheered for the Green and Whites from the stadium even though I was a player for the Rangers.

The teenage midfielder’s trajectory has largely improved since then, and this summer he signed his first professional deal with Celtic, which is good until June 2026.

On December 8th, he did, however, suffer a rupture of the anterior crucial ligament, from which he is currently rehabilitating in the hopes of returning to play in 10 to 11 months.
