Bruins’ Charlie Coyle Displays ‘Swagger, Confidence’ In Attitude On Ice

Charlie Coyle, the Boston Bruins’ top-line center, is stepping up to the challenge with each shift.

Coyle had an eight-game point streak with four goals and eight assists, demonstrating his offensive consistency as well as being one of the team’s best penalty-killing forwards.

In his second season as head coach of the Boston Bruins, Jim Montgomery has watched Coyle’s personal growth accelerate.

“I see someone that wants to take over and control games,” Montgomery told reporters, according to the team. “However, there is a difference in his mentality. “You can just see his swagger and confidence.”

Coyle emphasized his commitment to playing ethically throughout his career.

“The more you contribute, the more confident you become, and you just keep riding that,” Coyle told reporters, according to the team. “I’ve always tried to play the right way and do it for the team, and I play with some terrific linemates and individuals. You play the correct way and hope to be rewarded. You hope the team is rewarded for it. That’s the important point.

In 49 games this season, Coyle has 18 goals and 24 assists for a total of 41 points. He’s three goals short of his career high. With the way he has been playing for the Bruins, there is little doubt that he will outperform his previous numbers this season.

“When you contribute out there.

“And that wasn’t something I was going to keep improving on and doing better. It’s a balance of playing the proper way while still seizing opportunities to hold on to the puck for extra second or look for that other move.”

The Bruins will take a 10-day break before facing the Calgary Flames at TD Garden on February 6. In his career, Coyle has ten points.
