Ex-Rangers boss Beale ‘targets’ former Celtic kid for Sunderland

Michael Beale, who formerly played for Celtic, has his sights set on his first acquisition as Sunderland’s manager.

Since taking the helm at The Stadium of Light as head coach, the former Rangers manager has not made any additions to his roster.

The Black Cats have been connected to a number of players, including Wales attacker Kieffer Moore and Amad Diallo, before the transfer window closes this week.

Yesterday, Sunderland ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Stoke. They are now outside of the play-offs based on goal differential, despite their best efforts to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Beale is considering incomings in addition to dealing with Alex Pritchard, who has declined to play for the team ever again.

Leo Hjelde, a former Celtic youth, is reportedly being targeted for a loan move, according to The Scottish Sun.

The 20-year-old left the Hoops in the summer of 2021 to join Leeds United.

He played with Rotherham for the second part of the previous term, and he has only appeared for the Lily Whites once this campaign.

APOEL president Prodromos Petrides, who was prevented from signing Jefte himself due to a FIFA ban, disclosed that the transfer fee to sign Rangers target Jefte is “not prohibitive.”

The Brazilian full-back, who is currently on loan at the Cypriot club from Rio de Janeiro side Fluminense, looks to be getting closer to joining the Ibrox team.

In order to sign the 20-year-old, Rangers would need to negotiate with both teams, and APOEL intended to make the loan transfer permanent this month.

However, last month, the world football governing body placed a transfer embargo on 11 Cypriot clubs due to financial difficulties. As a result, they are unable to recruit players until they can provide documentation that their obligations have been paid off.
