Jefte to Rangers transfer fee revealed as APOEL fight with FIFA opens door for Ibrox move

Prodromos Petrides, the president of APOEL, stated that the transfer fee for Rangers target Jefte is “not prohibitive” after they were prevented from signing him by a FIFA embargo.

The Brazilian full defender, who is on loan at the Cypriot club from Rio de Janeiro side Fluminense, looks to be heading toward an Ibrox deal. In order to sign the 20-year-old, Rangers would need to negotiate with both teams, and APOEL intended to make the loan transfer permanent this month.

However, last month, the world football governing body placed a transfer embargo on 11 Cypriot clubs due to financial difficulties. As a result, they are unable to recruit players until they can provide documentation that their obligations have been paid off. Additionally, Rangers has sought to capitalize on the club’s issues and has enticed Jefte to go to Scotland. Reports from the Mediterranean island suggest the transfer fee may be as low as £400,000, as APOEL chief executive Petrides disclosed last month.

Petrides stated: “The cost to purchase Jefte is not prohibitive, but the current embargo regulations prevent it from being done at this time. In order to hopefully purchase him in the summer, we want to make sure he remains. The team would adore having him on board long-term.”
