Everton midfielder feels ‘at home’ on Merseyside after Arsenal move as WSL debut eyed

Everton midfielder, eyeing a WSL debut, feels “at home” on Merseyside following move to Arsenal.

In the matchup with Leicester City this weekend, Kathrine Kuhl is aiming to make her Women’s Super League debut.

The fact that Everton’s first Women’s Super League (WSL) match of the year was against Arsenal was very humorous.

At the very least, it was ironic for Kathrine Kuhl, the midfielder, who had joined Brian Sorensen’s team on loan until the end of the season, just one week before to leaving the Gunners. In the past 12 months, Kuhl has made 24 appearances for Arsenal since joining the team in January 2023.

One of the most highly-regarded teenage football players in Europe when she came in North London, the fierce competition at Meadow Park had her pining for more playing time. Keeping that in mind, the midfielder must have been confused to learn that her parent club, Everton, would be her next league opponent after finalizing a temporary move to Merseyside earlier this month.

“I’m very excited,” she says to the ECHO on this Saturday’s showdown with Leicester City. “I think it has helped me to have these two weeks to relax and train. I believe it has helped me learn the play style, therefore I’m quite excited.”

Everton and Kuhl complement one other perfectly. She worked with manager Sorensen at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, and it was then that the Blues manager gave the midfielder her senior debut. She has only watched Everton play from the sidelines, but she believes that reuniting with her former coach might greatly elevate her performance.

FA regulations prevented Kuhl from playing against the Gunners, so she was forced to watch Everton lose 2-1 from the stands. The 20-year-old is even more eager to play in the league now that she has had a longer time to wait to don the royal blue uniform in the WSL.
