‘There are possibilities’: Middlesbrough boss makes Sammy Silvera admission amid Portsmouth struggles
As the Australia international continues to have a miserable run at Fratton Park, the Middlesbrough manager stated that is something he is currently thinking about.
Silvera has only made 11 appearances for the Blues in the Championship thus far, and he has not yet helped John
The winger was handed a rare start – his first since the end of September – for the Blues’ 3-0 defeat at Bristol City.
But just like his Fratton Park career to date, it failed to produce anything of note, with Silvera substituted just after
the hour mark.
That performance drew criticism from a section of the 3,333 Pompey fans in the away end at Ashton Gate, something
which Mousinho described as ‘unfair’.
The News understands that outing could potentially be Silvera’s last with the star and crescent on his chest, even
though they are unable to terminate his season-long loan.
Carrick has confirmed this understanding, acknowledging that they might cause an early recall. Following Boro’s
victory over Hull on New Year’s Day, he told Teeside Live: “There are possibilities (Silvera could be recalled).” I can’t
provide you much more. We are reaching the point where we are thinking about what is best for Sammy and us. On
that one, we’ll have to wait and see.
If the 24-year-old is called up early from Pompey, it is unlikely that he will be included in Boro’s 25-man squad for
the second half of the season, according to Teeside Live. If the Wearsiders wish to continue the players’ development
away from Fratton Park, they would have to find a second loan move away from the Riverside.
