“A shambles” – Kenny McLean rages at Norwich City after Sheffield Wednesday shocker

Ante Crnac’s seventh goal of the season and Borja Sainz’s first goal since November gave the Canaries a 2-0 lead over Danny Rohl’s team before halftime, but the Owls managed to rally for a 12-minute comeback after the break.

It began with a header from Michael Ihiekwe at minute 64. Josh Windass then equalized eight minutes later. The seasoned forward then found an unmarked Djeidi Gassama, who had the simplest of jobs to score the game-winning goal for the South Yorkshire team.

However, after drawing 1-1 with Oxford United last Friday, Norwich has now lost four points from winning situations at Carrow Road in the last four days.

Since the beginning of the previous season, no team in the top four divisions of English football has lost more points from winning situations than the Yellows, whose startling total now stands at 58 points.

Naturally, everyone connected to the team has shown their widespread annoyance at this record, and the Scottish midfielder mentioned these developments in his post-game analysis.

Hoff Thorup, who replaced David Wagner following the Dane’s sixth-place finish the previous season, has also been in charge of half of the points lost in the aforementioned period.

With Norwich experiencing the all-too-familiar feeling most weeks, the club captain said Tuesday’s meltdown against Wednesday was the worst performance of the season. Six of those have come in a recent run of one win in the previous seven Championship games.

“The season is seven months in, and nothing has changed. Through the Pink’Un, McLean stated, “We’re still having trouble getting answers.”

“This season’s worst is that. As you can see, the fans’ response at the end of the game was well-deserved. We cannot be content to play football for forty-five minutes each week. It’s insufficient,” he continued.

“The number of points we’ve lost from winning positions is just a mess. It’s something that has to be fixed and changed. It is all up to us.

The 41-time Scotland international continued by mentioning how teams can fully exploit the Canaries’ mindset in these circumstances.

“Teams are invited and encouraged. They are aware of our vulnerability when they receive a goal. They can tell we’re weak, and we don’t do much about it,” he added.

“We’re a nice team. When it clicks, it’s really good. When things go against us, it’s shocking. That’s where we’re at. There’s no in-between. We need to be better in tough moments.

“I wish I could say exactly what it was, what it has been, and what it is. We’re a long way into the season now,” the 33-year-old stated.

Norwich City’s play-off chances are slowly fading away

Johannes Hoff Thorup applauds Norwich City's support

It is always expected that Norwich will compete for a play-off spot at the very least, given the club’s recent success at this level, which has produced two Championship-winning seasons in the last six years.

With Josh Sargent and Sainz, the division’s leading scorer, as two prime examples, there is no questioning the quality at Hoff Thorup’s disposal. However, the Yellows’ current problem is that they lack a cutting edge and have a consistently poor defense.

Keeping a two-goal lead against the Owls would have put Norwich just four points behind the Sky Blues with nine games left, as Coventry City suffered their first loss since February 5.

But given Tuesday’s opponents’ two straight victories, Middlesbrough’s recent turnaround, and Bristol City’s recent run of only one loss in nine games, many would pick those teams to advance to the playoffs over Norwich due to the Canaries’ ongoing inconsistencies.

Hoff Thorup’s team will play against West Brom, Burnley, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough following the international break. They have to win this Friday night’s trip to Ashton Gate if they want to finish in the top six.
