Stoke City midfielders Wouter Burger and Andrew Moran must be on their best behaviour against Blackburn Rovers ahead of yellow card amnesty.
To escape an automatic two-game punishment, Wouter Burger and Andrew Moran must avoid getting in trouble with the referee against Blackburn Rovers.
Burger and Moran have both received nine yellow cards in the Championship so far this season. A 10th before or during the 37th game of the campaign disqualifies a player for two matches. Moran has gone two games without being booked, whilst Burger’s dissent card at Coventry was his first in five league meetings.
Burger spoke to the local media this morning ahead of the Blackburn encounter on Wednesday (8pm) and confessed he is having to think about regulating his behaviour to cut down the bookings.
He said: “I think when I was captain last season, I got away with a lot, but now that I don’t wear the armband, I get more yellows and I have to be a little smarter, I think.
I’ve already thought of something, so let’s see whether it works.” Junior Tchamadeu has eight yellow cards, Ben Wilmot has six, and Ashley Phillips, Ben Gibson, and Jordan Thompson have all received five. Ben Pearson is only on two, after missing the majority of the season with a hamstring injury, and his fitness is being reviewed after limping out of the Coventry game in the first half.
If a player receives 15 yellow cards in 46 regular season games prior to the playoffs, they will be banished for three matches. A player who receives 20 yellow cards up to and including the last day will face a penalty assessed by a regulatory body.
Josh Laurent had three yellow cards in three appearances for Stoke this season and only three in 32 for Burnley since switching clubs in August.
