Ipswich Town: Alex Jones’ player ratings from defeat at Crystal Palace.

Ipswich Town fell to their 17th Premier League of the season as they were beaten away at Crystal Palace. Alex Jones provides his player ratings.

Alex Palmer

Some big saves. Commanded his area well and denied Palace quite a few great opportunities. Nothing he could have done about the goal – he did everything to try and drag Ipswich to a result. 8 (Man of the Match)

Dara O’Shea

Out of position but dealt with Eberechi Eze really well, aside from one or two moments of real quality where the England international threatened. Can be pleased with his efforts. 7

Positioned himself well. Nullified Eddie Nketiah well, aside from a couple of occasions. 7

Jacob Greaves

Not at his best. Booked early on for a shirt pull and perhaps fortunate to avoid a second. Drawn out too many times when Palace attacked. Made a vital block to to deny Eze in the first half. 5

Leif Davis showed an attacking improvement against the Eagles

Almost gave Palace a goal near the end. 6 Kalvin Phillips Some poor passes caused him to be caught off guard. Very terrible for the goal. It looked fantastic with Jens Cajuste. 6 Jens Cajusté Another pleasant, laidback performance. Town had some really wonderful spells on the ball, ensuring that they were never completely overwhelmed by Palace’s midfield two, as happened in the opposite encounter. 7

Jaden Philogene

He missed an early shot and remained rather quiet after that. Off-the-ball work is certainly better, but it felt like he spent very little time in possession. 5 Julio Enciso Lively yet potentially lacking in crispness at times, which is reasonable given his recent comeback from injury. Best moment came in the first half, when he sat down Marc Guehi and stung Dean Henderson’s hands. 6 Jack Clarke Another significant improvement in his work out of possession, as he is continually chasing down people to win the ball. Created a fantastic opportunity by robbing Eze, but couldn’t nearly set up Enciso to score. 6

Liam Delap snatched at chances in South London
Liam Delap seized opportunities in South London (Image: PA) Liam Delap He had a few opportunities to threaten, but he took far too many terrible shots from decent positions. Not his belligerent personality. 5 Substitute: Ben Johnson (67′) Town gained additional width in a distinctive shape. I squandered a fantastic chance with a close-range header. 5 Substitute: Omari Hutchinson (67′). Brought energy off the bench, but some reckless deliveries into the box caused issues. Clearly wasn’t fit enough to start, but it felt like a huge oversight. 6 Substitute: Nathan Broadhead (75′) Got into good positions but unable to pull the trigger.
