‘Already gone’ – Sheffield Wednesday must start looking for Danny Rohl replacement, reporter believes

Sheffield Wednesday should start looking for summer managerial candidates, reporter Chris Dunlavy believes.

Sheffield Wednesday risk losing Danny Rohl at the end of this season. He has worked wonders since taking over SWFC back in 2023.

Rohl, 35, is Southampton’s ‘top’ target to replace Ivan Juric, as per  He has worked with the Saints as a coach in the past.

Journalist Dunlavy has delivered his verdict on the situation and has written in The Football League Paper (09.03.25, page 7): “Southampton is the 35-years-old’s most obvious destination, and the Saints must be kicking themselves that they didn’t pay the £5m compensation demanded by the Owls in December.”

He added: “(Dejphon) Chansiri’s public fallout with Rohl over January transfers means the German has little motivation to stay, and the fact that his staff are almost all out of contract (and haven’t signed new deals) will significantly reduce the cost of hiring him. Rohl is already gone – the immediate concern for Chansiri and Wednesday is to start sourcing a replacement.”

Sheffield Wednesday latest regarding Danny Rohl

Losing Rohl would be a massive blow for Sheffield Wednesday later this year.

They would have a huge decision to make on who to bring in next.

The German arrived in South Yorkshire as a bit of an unknown quantity when he took over from Xisco Munoz.

Prior to his switch to Hillsborough, the young coach had worked at Bayern Munich, the Germany national team and Southampton.

He managed to keep the Owls up in the Championship last year against the odds.

They have since carried their momentum over into this season and have been pushing for the play-offs.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently sat in 13th place in the table after their 3-0 win away at Plymouth Argyle over the weekend.

They are seven points off the top six with 10 fixtures left as they look to close the gap over the coming weeks.

What now for Sheffield Wednesday?

The Owls will be sweating over Rohl’s future with links to Southampton not going away.

The Saints went up last term but have struggled to adapt to life in the top flight. They sit in the drop zone with Leicester City and Ipswich Town and are well on their way to an immediate return to the Football League.

Sheffield Wednesday are back in action this Tuesday with an away trip to Norwich City.
