A man is in the hospital after being shot by the U.S. Secret Service during an armed confrontation just five minutes away from the White House.

Incident Details
The shooting occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday near 17th and G Streets NW, according to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi. Officers encountered an armed suspect, leading to a confrontation in which shots were fired.

The man, whose identity has not been released, remains in the hospital with serious injuries. His condition is currently unknown.

Possible Connection to a Suicidal Individual
Authorities had been alerted to a “suicidal individual” travelling to Washington, D.C. from Indiana, though it remains unclear if the suspect in this incident was the same person.

“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” said Guglielmi.

Despite the alarming incident, officials confirmed that the White House was not breached and that no one under Secret Service protection was in danger. The District of Columbia Fire Department reported that the suspect suffered serious, possibly critical, injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether any additional threats were present. More updates will be provided as details emerge.
