Reading FC defender earns nomination for EFL monthly award
Prior to Saturday’s trip to relegation-threatened Crawley Town, Noel Hunt’s team was four points outside the play-offs after missing the majority of January due to injury, but he returned and participated in every game the Royals played during a successful February. The team is still undefeated with four draws and a victory.
Clean sheets were earned during this period against Birmingham City, the clear leaders, and Huddersfield Town, who were vying for a spot in the playoffs.
Mbengue stood out against Blues in particular, stopping Lyndon Dykes’ attempt on the goal line to avert what appeared to be a game-winning opportunity.
Other nominees for the award include Jay Stansfield of Birmingham City, Ollie Rathbone of Wrexham, and Niall Ennis of Blackpool.
The managers nominated for the monthly award are Steven Schumacher of Bolton Wanderers, Nathan Jones of Charlton Athletic, Chris Davies of Birmingham City, and Dave Challinor of Stockport County.
