Plans for 20mph speed limit in 10 Watford roads mooted

Plans to turn ten Watford roads into 20mph zones are in the works, with responses needed by the end of next week.

Hertfordshire County Council has active consultations for potentially lowering the speed limit around Coates Way, Boundary Way, and The Ridgeway “to make it easier and safer for people walking and cycling and to improve safety for all road users”.

A deadline of 11.45pm on Friday, March 14, has been set for residents to give their support or object to any of the proposals.

The Coates Way, Garston, scheme would also see the smaller nearby roads Coates Dell, Kytes Drive, Bridge Close, and Pilgrims Close given 20mph limits and is funded through Meriden Tudor councillor Steve Cavinder’s Highways locality Budget.

Rosecroft Drive, Wimborne Grove, and The Drive are also included in the Ridgeway proposal, funded through Nascot Park councillor Mark Watkin’s budget.

Boundary Way would be the only road affected if the relevant scheme, funded by Woodside Stanborough councillor Tim Williams’ budget, was put in place.

None of the proposals include speed bumps or other traffic calming measures, due to low existing average speeds, but signs would be installed.

Comments received in relation to each scheme will inform the proposal that goes to a final formal consultation before they can be put in place.

The council may also halt a scheme based on the responses.
