Robbie Blake issues Burnley message following win over West Brom. happy birthday, legend
Robbie Blake, a former Burnley player, celebrated his team’s second win on Twitter after they defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-1 last
night.
Vincent Kompany’s team had a great opportunity to increase their lead over Watford, who were in third place, but it was a high-
pressure situation because Sheffield United, another title candidate, was also playing yesterday evening.
But Darnell Furlong’s header in a corner gave them the lead in the seventh minute, and the visitors dominated the home team for the
majority of the match at Turf Moor. Nathan Tella had to equalise in the 75th minute.
After the Blades secured three points against Hull City, Scott Twine, who has been out for the majority of the season, came on in the
87th minute to secure what could be a vital three points in their pursuit of the Championship crown.
The Clarets are currently 19 points clear of third place after this victory, and the Lancashire team now appears to be guaranteed
promotion.
And 46-year-old Blake is one man who was exceptionally pleased with yesterday’s result, with West Brom in superb form going into
that game.
Taking to social media after the game, he posted: “What a win tonight. No better feeling watch a team you love marching on to the
Premiership. UTC.”
The Verdict:
Once again, the Clarets showed real character to come from behind and that character looks as though it will guide them to promotion.
Considering this is a reasonably new team following their summer rebuild, their progress has been nothing short of outstanding and
Kompany needs to take a lot of credit for his work at Turf Moor.
He hadn’t managed in the second tier before the summer, so the fact he has been able to make such an impressive start to life in the
division has to be commended.
The players also need to be praised for their work, with the likes of Anass Zaroury and Manuel Benson lighting up the league with
some of their performances.
The club’s recruitment team have played their part as well with some excellent finds – and they have the depth needed to sustain this
push for promotion even if a few injuries come into play.
Their summer sales have allowed them to have this much depth and it looks as though that risk to cash in on the likes of Maxwel
Cornet and Nathan Collins has paid off.
