‘I like the midfield two’ – Sheffield United verdict delivered by former EFL player

Sheffield United have been backed to beat Preston North End 3-0 this weekend by EFL pundit Sam Parkin.

Sheffield United are preparing to take on their former boss Paul Heckingbottom. SUFC are sat in 2nd place in the Championship table behind Leeds United and above Burnley as they eye promotion to the Premier League.

The Blades head into the game on the back of their 2-1 win away at QPR last time out. Ben Brereton Diaz and Tyrese Campbell got their goals against the Hoops.

Former Luton Town and Ipswich Town man Parkin has said on the Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel: “I wasn’t hugely impressed by Sheffield United at the weekend against QPR but they were the better side, no doubt. I like the midfield two, really enjoyed watching Peck, that might be the first time that I have seen him in the flesh, him and (Vini) Souza compliment each other really well. (It was a) wonderful goal from (Tyrese) Campbell.

“It didn’t wow me but they deserved the three points given that the QPR penalty that gave them a chance was never a spot-kick in my eyes. The cup is going to take precedent for Preston North End now. I’ll go for a 3-0.”

Sheffield United latest

Sheffield United were relegated from the top flight last year after finishing in the bottom three with Burnley and Luton Town.

They have since stuck with Wilder and have adapted well to life in the second tier.

The Blades have recruited smartly since they went down and have built a new look side.

They have an ability to grind out wins and will be hoping for the same against Preston North End.

The Lilywhites have an FA Cup quarter-final tie against Aston Villa coming up and that may be seen as their priority now as they sit in mid-table.

Heckingbottom was picked as their replacement for Ryan Lowe last August and he has done a steady job at Deepdale.

The ex-Barnsley and Leeds United man guided Sheffield United to the top flight in 2023 before he was sacked during the last campaign.

What now for Sheffield United?

Parkin has tipped the Blades to get all three points comfortably in the end against Preston North End. The visitors drew with Swansea City in their last outing.

They continue to chase down Leeds United at the summit and have Burnley breathing down their neck as well.
