Celtic and Rangers hit with surprise Premier Sports Cup ticket cuts as chiefs act over pyro breaches

An independent disciplinary commission concluded that the actions – understood to be from ultras groups linked to the Old Firm

clubs and the Lanarkshire side – caused delays to the kick offs and posed a “health and safety risk” to players and fans.

According to SunSport, the ultras organisations in question are the Bhoys and Green Brigade, together with the Union Bearts of the

Rangers and the Block E Ultras of Motherwell.

Following separate disciplinary hearings investigating the conduct of the clubs’ fans during this season’s Premier Sports Cup

semifinals and final, the SPFL confirmed that Celtic, Motherwell, and Rangers had violated SPFL rules, the league said in a statement.

The independent Disciplinary Commission has concluded its investigation into the large-scale, coordinated, and unlawful

pyrotechnics displays at Celtic v. Rangers in December and Celtic v. Aberdeen and Rangers v. Motherwell in November.

“All three clubs have been found to have breached SPFL Rule H34 in failing to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that their

supporters did not engage in “unacceptable conduct” at those matches. The clubs were also found to have failed to identify or take

proportionate disciplinary measures against the supporters responsible for the pyrotechnic displays.

“These displays caused the Celtic vs. Aberdeen game to be delayed by 14 minutes, Motherwell vs. Rangers to be delayed by 5 minutes,

and the Premier Sports Cup final to be delayed by 3 minutes. They also put the health and safety of other fans, players, and match staff

at risk, as well as thousands of fans attending the games and those watching from around the world, at serious inconvenience.

In response to the news, Rangers have warned their supporters not to use pyrotechnics and reiterated that using the devices is

prohibited.

They wrote: “Rangers notes the announcement from the SPFL and the fine imposed on the club following the use of pyrotechnics at

Premier Sports Cup encounters earlier this season.
