Stoke City striker nominated for award as two former bosses fight for League One prize

Niall Ennis has had a good start to life on loan at Blackpool.

Niall Ennis is on loan at Blackpool from Stoke City. Ennis has capped a good first few weeks at Blackpool by being nominated for League One player of the month.

The 25-year-old striker left Stoke City to join Blackpool on loan in January and has scored four times in his first six appearances, including two against Crawley. It is a big few months as he gets back to playing regularly, hoping to either catch the eye of Mark Robins or a potential suitor for next season.

He is up against Reading centre-back Amadou Mbengue, Wrexham midfielder Ollie Rathbone and Birmingham City forward Jay Stansfield for the divisional award for February.

A statement from the EFL said: “Ennis arrived on loan on January 30 and scored a late equaliser against Charlton on his debut two days later. He then did the same against Mansfield before scoring the opening two goals against Crawley with his ability to sniff out chances.”

Charlton’s former Stoke boss Nathan Jones is up for the managerial award and he is up against Steven Schumacher, who is now at Bolton. The two are battling for a play-off spot.

The EFL statement said: “It has taken Jones a while to add fluidity and style to the firm foundations he has built at Charlton, but his patience and belief are paying off. His improving side moved into the play-off picture with nine goals and 10 points from five games (in February).

“Schumacher swept into Bolton, bringing with him an air of positivity and belief that inspired his side to three successive comeback wins (in February) against Crawley, Shrewsbury and Leyton Orient scoring nine goals to match their nine points from four games.”

Birmingham’s Chris Davies and Stockport County’s Dave Challinor complete the set of nominees. Winners will be announced on Friday.
