“Not a priority” – Watford told to avoid Yasser Larouci transfer action

The 24-year-old is anticipated to commit to the Hornets for the long run, according to a recent report from Africa Foot. It is already reported that talks are in progress over the terms of a permanent contract between the Championship team and his parent club, Troyes.

As of Watford’s 35th game of the season against Stoke, the Algerian international has started 23 of the 33 Championship games he has played in this season, making him a staple in Tom Cleverley’s starting lineup.

Larouci’s agent, Tim Pole, is reportedly in talks with Watford. According to reports, Larouci’s original loan agreement included a buyout clause that the club might execute.

“Reports indicate that Yasser Larouci’s loan stint at Watford will be turned into a permanent one,” we questioned our Watford fan expert Justin Beattie. Do you find this satisfactory? Or should Watford make an upgrade at wing-back or left-back?

“Yes, Larouci has his moments for Watford,” Beattie remarked. He appears capable at moments, while at other times, you’re left wondering how he’s adjusting to life on the squad.

However, I would say that he has been reliable for us this season. There is much room for improvement in some of his crossings. He frequently fails to overcome the first defender with the cross, and I believe that he would be a much more formidable player if he had that ability.

“I believe that someone must be exerting pressure on his position if he is to be hired on a permanent basis. To put pressure on him, we therefore need another player to play there.

“I don’t believe he would be improving as a footballer if he became very at ease. Therefore, I believe that his permanent signing is probably not a top priority, but if the manager and the board are amenable to it, then I suppose we accept it.”

Because of their forward-thinking style, attacking-minded full-backs frequently have defensive weaknesses, and Larouci’s performance this season is no exception.

He has received some criticism for his part in Watford’s weak defense because of instances this season when his eagerness to advance has led to him being caught out of position on the turnover.

As of March 3, the Algerian’s expected assists (xA) of 3.65 put him in the top 89.8 percentile of Championship left-backs, while his 21 shots put him in the top 85.7 percentile and his 31 chances created put him in the top 88.8 percentile, according to FootMob.

But according to FootMob, he is in the bottom 41.8 percentile of his second-tier positional peers with 17 tackles won, in the bottom 16.3 percentile with 47.2 percent of duels won, and in the bottom 46.9 percentile with 11 dribbles past.

Larouci could therefore not be the best investment the team could make at that position in the near future, even though he might give Watford a potent attacking outlet until he improves his defensive shortcomings.
