Armed police rush to Birmingham city centre after knife alert

After spotting a man brandishing a knife, armed cops hurried to the heart of Birmingham.

Following the alert this morning, Monday, March 3, police dogs and firearms officers “quickly rushed” to the Bath Row neighborhood.

Around 8.30am, ‘important city centre partners’ observed the individual and called the police.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and class B drugs after officers recovered a combat knife.

A man remained in custody for questioning this afternoon. Anyone concerned over suspicious activity was urged to get in touch with the force.

West Midlands Police said: “A man has been arrested in Birmingham city centre today after we recovered a combat knife.

“Key city centre partners reported a man carrying a weapon at around 8.30am.

“Our teams – including officers from armed response and our police dogs – quickly rushed to the Bath Row area.

“We found a combat knife and detained a 43-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and Class B drugs. He remains in custody for questioning.”
