Questions will be asked’: Former Burnley man discusses Scott Parker’s decision to make changes for FA Cup tie

Scott Parker’s decision to make changes for Burnley’s FA Cup clash would be vindicated if the club wins the league in midweek; else, doubts will be raised.

That’s according to former Claret David Unsworth, who was on radio duty at Deepdale on Saturday as Parker’s side was eliminated from the competition with a 3-0 loss. The Clarets manager made nine changes to his squad, and it showed, as Burnley finished second best for much of the cup encounter.

Unsworth, on the other hand, believes Burnley has “bigger fish to fry,” with a long trip to Cardiff on Tuesday night providing an opportunity to close the distance on the top two to two points.

“It was a fantastic performance from Preston North End, it was a thoroughly deserved victory and they thoroughly deserved the three-goal cushion,” he said BBC Lancashire’s Radio 4.

“Our goals are for perfect quality. If you have the opportunity to see these, you won’t find three better goals elsewhere this afternoon.

The difference is that they supplied quality when it was most needed. “Burnley played well; they gave it their all. But I believe the nine changes they made to the team had an impact on its performance.

“They tried alterations to bring the guys back on the pitch, but it was too little, too late.

“Preston were ravenous, and they went for it right away.
