When Taylor Gardner-Hickman scored the game-winning goal for Birmingham City on Saturday lunchtime, Wycombe Wanderers head coach Mike Dodds was not holding back his disappointment.

The former Bristol City loanee’s first-half goal proved to be too strong for Will Norris to keep out of his net, and the Blues emerged victorious in the match between League One’s top two.
The opposition’s goalie, Ryan Allsop, scored with a straightforward long ball. Gardner-Hickman brilliantly took down his inch-perfect pass, and although Norris stopped his shot, it went over the keeper and into the net.
This would turn out to be the game-changing moment because Wycombe was unable to rally after Xavier Simons was sent off. At the goal, Dodds didn’t hesitate to express his dissatisfaction. Chris Davies, the opposition manager, had a very different opinion of the goal.

As head coach of Wycombe, Dodds experienced loss for the first time in league play. Wanderers must make sure they hold onto their second-place finish since it now appears that Birmingham is completely out of the picture in the League One title battle.
The 38-year-old was irritated by the goal his team gave up, which ultimately lost Wycombe the game, even though the second half saw significant improvement. “I’ll be honest, I’m frustrated by it,” Dodds told reporters.
You put in a lot of effort over the week to try to counter their threats, so it’s annoying to give up a goal like that so easily. It’s a bad goal to give away, and I don’t want this club to be linked to things like that.
“We will definitely make an effort to prevent it, but I don’t want to claim it won’t happen again.
“From my perspective, we were pretty good in the first four of my five games, so [the goal] makes me furious.
“You work diligently and systematically throughout the week, and then you allow an easy goal to enter.”
