Ipswich Town hero makes annoying comparison involving Southampton
Pundit Darren Bent recently jeered Southampton fans with an intriguing comparison. As per him, Championship leaders Leeds United are better than the Saints.
If you’ve followed Football for long, you would admit that this sport feels unimaginable without emotions. Be it of the fans, supporters, players, managers, or even former Football stars.
Hadn’t it been so, why would club icon Matt Tissier still be concerned about Southampton’s activities? Or the Saints fans still not over from the club’s iconic late 2010s era?
But, still, there is a line between keeping your biases towards your own club or directing them towards someone else. Sadly, one can’t expect this gentleman principle from everyone even at the Top Flight level.
Here, we talk of former Ipswich Town forward and now pundit, Darren Bent who made an intriguing comparison recently. And it’s Southampton again, being at the receiving end of it.
Now, certainly, the Saints have been worse in the ongoing season. After all, unless it, being in contention for the lowest points record is impossible. But do they deserve to be called subpar than a Championship side? Maybe not.
Note it, Bent mentioned two of the bottom three, aiming at Southampton and Leicester, while excluding Ipswich.
Doesn’t paint a true picture of the current scenario, right? In the Premier League table, Ipswich is tied on points with Leicester in the relegation zone, being just better on goal difference.
But out of a slight bias, Bent left them out of the comparison. Further, you might remember that Southampton managed a win against Ipswich weeks ago, not losing to them this season.
Thus, if the Saints are worse than Leads, the same could be concluded about Ipswich Town. Isn’t it?
Clearly, the ex-Ipswich man’s words are an indirect jibe towards their promoted counterparts. In the end, the bottom trio- Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton, are all on track for a Championship stint next.
