£62.5m-rated striker has just proved why Nottingham Forest shouldn’t touch him in the summer

The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League, and Evangelos Marinakis wanted to sign a new striker to help push Forest over the finish line in their pursuit of Champions League football. However, strikers are expensive, so with Forest on a high, the Reds were held hostage, and as a result, the window came and went without any new players joining for the senior ranks. Jamie Redknapp thought that Yoane Wissa might cost close to £40 million, and to be honest, the Reds were never going to shell out that kind of money.

Another player Forest wanted was Wolves striker Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian was linked with the Reds but he chose to sign a new contract with Cunha having a £62.5 million release clause active from the summer.

Matheus Cunha loses cool as Wolves exit FA Cup

The positive, negative, and ugly aspects of Matheus Cunha were all revealed in this game. Cunha was sent out as Wolves rallied to force an undefeated Bournemouth into extra time and penalties.

After an altercation during extra time, Sam Barrott ejected the striker. As he departed the field, he punched Milos Kerkez, attempted to headbutt the Bournemouth defender, and then declared his intention to fight everyone, including the fourth referee.

It’s easy to see why Forest desired Cunha after he demonstrated his genius during the game. He gave Wolves the equalizer, but Vitor Pereira’s team missed the penalty shootout because he was not on the field.

Forest clearly wanted Cunha the goalscorer to sign for the club during January. However, this incident in isolation offers more questions than answers about a striker who looks destined to move on this summer.

Forest can’t touch Cunha during summer transfer window

The Wolves talisman is now going to miss some very important games. He will receive a mandatory three-match suspension and there is even a sense that he might miss more games due to the severity of the incident.

Cunha was previously suspended this season, and Forest doesn’t need a player like that on their team. It is evident that the Brazilian is a talented player, but the striker does appear to have a darker side.

Ultimately, Forest did not place an offer for Cunha. In light of this, it is generally agreed that some of his fans may be unsure of the player’s mindset regarding likely signing this summer.

It will be essential to have a new striker if the Reds qualify for Europe. For Forest to invest more than £60 million on a new hire, though, it must be someone with a little less baggage than Cunha currently seems to have.
