Alexander Isak is back in the headlines again for transfer reasons, and honestly, there are a couple of ways that this story could be taken, and we know which way the original source is hoping for.
Newcastle fans are getting used to the constant speculation regarding Alexander Isak now and I think, just going off social media and conversations I’ve had with friends who cling to the negative vibes like comfort blankets, that the fanbase is in a good place with regards to believing that the Swedish star will remain at Newcastle beyond this season.
It’s obviously easy to get rocked by speculation, especially with our club’s history of saying one thing and doing another, but if Newcastle are really serious about becoming challengers on a consistent basis, then selling our top stars is not the way to go about it.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona can covet our star man all they want, but there’s currently no reason to sell.
Who wouldn’t be excited by Barcelona being interested in them?
With that in mind, Mundo Deportivo in Spain are trying a different tact by reporting that “Barça know that Isak is excited to have him on their agenda for the near future”.
It would be easy to read that as “Alexander Isak wants a move to Barcelona”, but we’re talking about some of the ‘biggest’ clubs in the world drooling over him, of course he’s going to be excited by that.
It doesn’t mean for one second that he’s pushing to leave Newcastle. It just means that he’s getting recognition for doing a good job. At least that’s how I’m choosing to view it, if he even said that at all, because why would an outlet in Spain be getting this information ahead of English outlets?
We aren’t worried about Barcelona
The report does go on to talk about how hard it will be for Barcelona to get a deal done for Isak, so they’re not pushing the same kind of agenda as we’re getting over here where Arsenal are concerned.
Sport Witness covered the Mundo Deportivo story and they tried to push the whole “Newcastle will have to sell if they don’t qualify for the Champions League” spiel, but the club have rubbished that many times already.
We’ll only know 100% when/if Alexander Isak steps out on to the pitch for Newcastle United after the summer transfer window has closed, but we’re staying confident.
