Regis Le Bris praises Eliezer Mayenda after Sunderland beat Sheff Wed
Eliezer Mayenda made the most of his comeback to Sunderland’s starting lineup by scoring both of his team’s goals in tonight’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, and REGIS LE BRIS lauded the striker’s ability to win games.
Wilson Isidor, the team’s top scorer, was rested on the substitutes’ bench, and Mayenda made his first appearance in the starting lineup in seven games.
After a long pass from Leo Hjelde, the Spaniard bundled the ball home after it had struck his arm to give Sunderland the lead in the first half. With 19 minutes left, he powered home a fantastic header to extend Sunderland’s lead.
Le Bris was thrilled with the teenager’s performance at Hillsborough, but Mayenda has had to wait for another chance to lead the line.
The Sunderland manager stated, “Eli is still very young.” He is still learning at the age of 19. Being behind Wilson, who has been so excellent this season, can teach a young player a lot, so even when he is on the bench, he is learning.
