Crystal Palace have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Southampton star Tyler Dibling after his impressive season in the Premier League.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 19-year-old fits “perfectly” into the Eagles’ transfer plans.
Oliver Glasner’s side are keen to sign young, talented players and help them develop their games at Selhurst Park before selling them on for a major profit.
That plan was seen last summer when Michael Olise, signed from Reading, was sold to Bayern Munich, while Man City are now interested in Adam Wharton.
Brown told Football Insider on 25 February that Dibling is certain to leave Southampton in the likelihood that they are relegated at the end of the season.
As a result, multiple interested clubs are thought to be considering moves for his signature, as Man United and Newcastle are also interested in the Southampton star.
Now, Crystal Palace have emerged as surprise candidates for his signature and will look to rival their fellow Premier League sides in an ambitious move.
Crystal Palace plot move to sign Tyler Dibling after Southampton latest
Brown told Football Insider on 24 February that Palace want to sign Liverpool’s Ben Doak, who has no future at Anfield, as they plan to sign a new winger in the summer.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has explained that Dibling is another of the names on their list of targets.
“Dibling is one of the names on their radar,” he told Football Insider.
“What Palace will do, and they’ve got a good record of doing it, is they will be keeping a close eye on the Championship and the young players in that division.
“So they’re looking at players like Doak, Jobe Bellingham, Chris Rigg, the best talents in the division.
“But they’ll also be having a look at the relegated teams to see if there’s anybody they can take.
“Every Premier League clubs does it, they look at the teams that go down and they identify players who they think can keep playing at this level.
“Dibling certainty stands out as one of those after his performances this season.
“Palace have been looking at him and I think they’ll be in the mix with the likes of Tottenham, who we’ve spoken about before, for his signature.
“They’ll be more likely to be able to offer first-team football, which could be a big thing for them.
“It might be an ambitious move when you look at the interest in him, but I don’t doubt Palace will be interested and will want to see if that deal is possible.”
Ebere Eze attracting interest from Tottenham
Palace’s summer efforts will not only be focused on finding new recruits, but on keeping their best players at the club amid growing interest.
Captain Marc Guehi is wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal among others, while the performances of Jean-Philippe Mateta have attracted high-profile interest in his signature.
Now, Brown has told Football Insider that Tottenham are preparing to sign Eberechi Eze, who is a long-term target of Ange Postecoglou.
However, they are prepared to prioritise other positions before making a move for the Crystal Palace star in what is expected to be a busy summer in North London.
