There are just four Championship games left to play before the March international break and Leeds United have the chance to stretch their lead at the top prior to the fortnight off.
Leeds United’s comeback wins over Sunderland and Sheffield United have seen The Whites go five points clear of Sheffield United, and seven ahead of Burnley. Leeds are well-placed to go and secure promotion.
Ally McCoist thinks Leeds are up and Brian Deane thinks Leeds will be joined by Sheffield United in the top two. Leeds have now played all three of their promotion rivals both home and away this term already.
Leeds will be without Ethan Ampadu for the foreseeable and that is a blow, but Pascal Struijk came in on Monday night to play a crucial role in the 3-1 victory. Now, a key four-game period before the break.
Predicting Leeds United’s next four games ahead of March break
Leeds fans will recall how The Whites fell off after last season’s March break. Momentum was thrown in the bin because of the break, with some Leeds players playing key international fixtures for their country.
Leeds may have plenty of international players, but none are involved in massive games like Wales were in the last March break. The first of the four games comes on Saturday, when Leeds host West Brom.
Then, Leeds go to Portsmouth, host Millwall and face Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road before players jet off and represent their countries. Below, LeedsUnited.News predicts 10 points from the next 12.
Date | Opponent | Venue | Prediction |
1 March | West Brom | Elland Road | 2-1 Win |
9 March | Portsmouth | Fratton Park | 0-2 Win |
12 March | Millwall | Elland Road | 1-1 Draw |
15 March | QPR | Loftus Road | 3-1 Win |
Predicting Sheffield United and Burnley’s next four matches
If Leeds do manage to obtain 10 points, where will that leave them in comparison to Sheffield United and Burnley? It would see Leeds on 85 points, three more points than they had this time around last season.
Leeds actually entered the last March break in first place, too. But, level on points with Leicester who had a game in hand. Below, we predict Sheffield United and Burnley’s four games before the March break.
Sheffield United’s next four games | Prediction | Burnley’s next four games | Prediction |
March 1 QPR (A) |
1-2 Away Win | March 4 Cardiff (A) |
0-1 Away Win |
March 8 Preston (H) |
3-0 Home Win | March 8 Luton (H) |
2-0 Home Win |
March 11 Bristol City (H) |
1-0 Home win | March 11 West Brom (H) |
0-0 Draw |
March 16 Sheffield Wednesday (A) |
1-1 Draw | March 15 Swansea (A) |
1-2 Away Win |
The next four games are pretty kind on all three of the Championship’s top three sides. Sheffield United take on rivals Wednesday and games like that throw form out of the window, especially away from home.
Burnley’s clean sheet run continues but it can’t last forever. A total of 10 points predicted for all three sides then, would see the five-point and seven-point gaps remain – but Leeds closer to securing the title.
