Stoke City have been urged to give Mark Robins time to put his own stamp on things by former Premier League player Andy Reid.
Stoke City turned to the former Coventry City man earlier this winter. SCFC picked him as their replacement for Narcis Pelach.
Robins, 55, penned a three-and-a-half year deal at the Bet365 Stadium. He has since won three of his first 11 games.
Ex-Charlton Athletic and Sunderland midfielder Reid has said on BBC’s Football Daily podcast: “They need to give Mark Robins the time and backing to bring in players. He knows players and how to develop them. I do wonder what the strategy will be at Stoke because it’s been so bitty.
“Different managers bring in a few players and the next manager comes in and they don’t like those players and then the cycle begins again and they haven’t been able to get it right.”
He added: “What I’d be saying if I was the owner or (sporting director) Jon Walters is let’s commit to Mark Robins for the rest of this season and the season after and then review it.
“Just give him some time to build something because Stoke need that stability – I don’t think he needs loads of money as he’s shown he can spot a player and can make them better.”
Stoke City latest
Stoke City lost 3-1 at home to Middlesbrough last time out.
The Potters are sat in 20th place in the Championship table. They are five points above the drop zone with 12 fixtures left to play.
They can’t get any consistency right now and are still at risk of slipping into League One if they can’t turn their fortunes around.
They still have a bit of a cushion between them and the bottom three. Plymouth Argyle, Derby County and Luton Town are in the drop zone.
Robins arrived in January after Pelach’s tough stint in Staffordshire and it has been a mixed start for the Lancashire-born man.
Prior to his switch to the Potters, their manager was surprisingly sacked by fellow second tier outfit Coventry City after seven years in charge.
Robins is an experienced manager in the Football League and has also worked with the likes of Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town in the past.
