“I’ll become a Birmingham player” – Defender believes Birmingham City set to buy him in next window.

Alfons Sampsted of FC Twente has been on loan at Birmingham City since last summer and has expressed interest in staying longer. In January 2023, he joined the Eredivisie side from Bodø/Glimt. The two teams will face off in the Europa League play-offs on Thursday. Twente secured a 2-1 victory in the opening leg last week. ESPN NL spoke the Birmingham City player about Twente and Bodø/Glimt before their European match. He was also asked about his future with the English club. According to the article, Birmingham City has the option to buy the Iceland international, and he believes the Blues will exercise it.

“I believe I have a chance of becoming a Birmingham player this summer. From there, we’ll see where things go. As things stand now, I’ll be a Birmingham player,” he stated. The right-back went on to say that he will return to the Netherlands in the future, but it is unclear whether as a player. “I had a good time. I’ve played quite a bit. We have reached European football twice in a row. I’ve met many lovely folks. I’ve played football and represented my country. I like the Netherlands. I will be back. “As a player or a tourist,” Sampsted clarified.

The 25-year-old has made 14 appearances for Birmingham City and has not played since suffering an ankle injury in October. He’s anxious to return to the pitch, but he knows it won’t be easy. Regarding his current situation, he stated, “The team is performing great. Unfortunately, I’ve been hurt and ill, which is less. But everything else is going great. Before my injury, I played a lot. “It takes quite some time to get back. I was healing throughout November, December, and January. “I’m finally back, and I want to return. It’s not simple because the club is doing well. There’s no compelling reason to modify much. But I have the feeling that if I do my best, I will be there again.”

Birmingham City are leading the League One table and are currently six points ahead of second placed Wycombe Wanderers with two games in hand.
