Junior Firpo’s spectacular header against Sheffield United on Monday night put Leeds United on the road to win, and the left-back thinks this team is the greatest he’s ever worked with.
Leeds’ focus quickly shifts to West Brom at Elland Road this Saturday afternoon, as the Whites currently lead the league by a commanding five points.
With Burnley’s match rescheduled to the following midweek due to FA Cup involvement and Sheffield United playing later in the day, they have the opportunity to take advantage of playing first in this round of matches at Saturday noon.
Junior Firpo, who rose high to rush into the box and get on the end of a Dan James ball towards the penalty spot, thumped a header past Michael Cooper to tie the score at Bramall Lane and send Leeds on their path to another unforgettable comeback victory.
With a goal and an assist against the Blades, he then deflected a corner towards Ao Tanaka for Leeds’ late victory, bringing his season total goal involvements to ten.
The former Barcelona player praised his colleagues and their recent achievements in his post-match remarks (via BBC West Yorkshire Sport):
“There’s a big togetherness. It’s the best group I’ve ever been in – everyone is focused, everyone is going in the same direction. You can see the reaction from players and staff – players who play 20 minutes, one minute or don’t play at all, everyone is together and we have one clear target and I think this win is massive for that happening.
“Obviously to win at Sheffield United, second in the league, fighting with us to win the league, to go five points clear feels unbelievable.
“There are still a lot of games to play, we have to stay humble, it’s not done yet. We want to keep going and win as many games as possible.”
Junior Firpo gave the character of the Leeds team high marks.
Given that he has interacted with some of the top football players of this generation, the Leeds left-back is highly commended for stating that this is the best dressing room he has ever been in.
He joined a team at Barcelona that had players like Gerard Pique, Antoine Griezmann, Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Lionel Messi.
Placing Leeds above that category demonstrates how happy he is with his current circumstances at Leeds and how Farke’s team is becoming more and more mentally prepared each month.
