Wolff defends F1 75 livery launch format after FIA’s concern over boos for Red Bull
After the FIA voiced worries about jeering during the event, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff defended Formula 1’s new pre-season livery launch event.
The booing of Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and world champion Max Verstappen during last week’s Formula One 75 was denounced by the sport’s governing body. The jeers that erupted when the federation’s name was mentioned were not mentioned by the FIA.
Horner and Wolff have a long-standing feud, and Wolff dismissed rumors that he joined those who made fun of the Red Bull team manager.
“I wasn’t jeering,” he said to Sky. Fifteen thousand people did that. It wasn’t required of me to.
He did, however, wonder if Verstappen had truly been jeered by the London fans at the O2 venue.
“I don’t think Max was booed,” he added, adding that we shouldn’t minimize a huge event because one person was jeered when he spoke, whether that was correct or not.
Formula 1 hosted a combined livery introduction ceremony for its teams for the first time with F1 75. According to Wolff, the show need to be repeated in upcoming seasons.
“The event was fantastic,” he remarked. “The positive we need to take away from that is that the cars were presented well, the crowd was fantastic, and it sets a new format for the years to come.”
Today, Mercedes is scheduled to make their debut at the Bahrain International Circuit with their new W16 chassis.
Wolff is certain Mercedes will catch up to their opponents this season after his team finished fourth in the championship the previous year.
“Perhaps more of us are capable of winning races this year. I hope we can have another season as competitive and thrilling because four of us won [four or more] races.
