‘Negotiations are ongoing’ – New Sunderland transfer story revealed after deadline day near miss.

It might be the end of Jewison Bennette’s ordeal at Sunderland.

The Costa Rican international joined Sunderland in 2022 but has had difficulty securing a consistent position there. Bennette has scored a goal for the first team on the road against Watford and helped Chris Rigg score his first league goal against Southampton at the Stadium of Light.

The 20-year-old was allowed to depart the team during the winter transfer window after failing to make an impression on current senior head coach Régis Le Bris’ squad during the 2024–25 season following a subpar loan move to Greek team Aris the previous season.

On deadline day, League One team Charlton Athletic made an offer for the winger-turned-left-back, but they were unable to sign Bennette because they ran out of time to complete the transaction before the 11 p.m. trading curfew passed without the paperwork being signed.

Football Club LNZ Cherkasy, who compete in the Ukrainian first division, is reportedly negotiating a deal, though it is unclear if it will be permanent or on loan. On social media, reporter Kevin Jimenez, who first revealed that Bennette was joining Sunderland, posted: “CRUkraine’s LNZ is interested in Jewison Bennette, negotiations ongoing.”

What have Sunderland figures said about Jewison Bennette recently?

Murty responded, “We feel for him,” when questioned about Bennette following Sunderland’s under-21 team’s victory over Wolves at the Academy of Light after the window had closed. We spoke with him. We have a close contact with Jews, of course. From a human perspective, we simply need to be someone they can confide in when they’re dealing with that disappointment because we’ve known him for a long time.

“When we see anything like that happen, we have to put aside the performance and football aspects and just make sure they’re okay as individuals. That is what we are attempting to do. Jewi is normally a cheery guy, so we’ll keep an eye on him over the next few weeks.”
