Forgotten Sunderland man in line for Ukraine move after transfer deadline day deal collapsed

It appears that a Sunderland player has a new, completely different opportunity at his feet after a dismal end to the transfer window saw him refused a move away from Wearside.

To be honest, Sunderland as a whole had a terrible transfer window. The signing of Enzo Le Fee may have been a brilliant bit of business, but Jayden Danns was an underwhelming arrival.

Given that Danns and Le Fee have both sustained long-term injuries, the Black Cats will virtually have no new players available during the transfer window and will have to settle for what they have until the end of the current campaign.

However, there is still one man who has no chance of getting into Regis Le Bris’ plans. However, fortunately, it looks like a move elsewhere is imminent.

Jewison Bennette subject of talks between Sunderland and LNZ Cherkasy

With a loan move being discussed and Charlton Athletic as the target, it appeared that Jefferson Bennette was headed to League One during the January transfer window.

But on the day of the deadline, Bennette’s move fell through because Charlton was unable to finish the required papers in time.

However, Ukrainian team LNZ Cherkasy is now interested in Bennette. Journalist Kevin Jimenez shared this information on Twitter/X, writing: “LNZ are interested in Jewison Bennette, negotiations are ongoing.”

Jimenez later added that this was a straight sale negotiation, rather than a loan bid. Details of any offer are not disclosed at this time, but it appears a permanent move to the Ukraine would be the route forward here.

It’s worth noting, the Ukraine transfer window runs from January 27 through to March 11, so there is still plenty of time to get this deal over the line with immediate effect.

Fresh start needed for Jewison Bennette, wherever that may be

A move to the Ukraine Premier League is quite a different prospect to the idea of heading down to Charlton and remaining in English football, but at this point, Bennette has very little choice.

There are several players in the Sunderland team who are better than him, therefore it is clear that he has no future at the Stadium of Light. The fact that Le Bris has occasionally chosen to use players out of position rather than call on Bennette this season speaks volumes.

The chance to play in a totally different setting and a clean break might be just what Bennette needs at this point in his career, even though it may seem like a strange and intimidating move.

He is still only twenty years old, and his brilliance is undeniable. There’s no reason why he can’t return to England at some point if he can succeed in Ukraine.
