“Worth having around” – Blackburn Rovers man backed ahead of big contract decision

“Worth having” around”—Blackburn Rovers man backed ahead of big contract decision

Andi Weimann, a Championship veteran, has been asked to stay at Blackburn Rovers past the current season.

After his contract with Bristol City expired at the end of the 2023–24 season, Austrian international Weimann joined Rovers. The striker had been with the Robins for six years.

According to many Blackburn supporters, including FLW’s Rovers fan pundit, Weimann has done enough to earn a lengthier stay at Ewood Park despite just signing an initial one-year contract.

Weimann, 33, came to Ewood Park having played in more than 300 games in the second division and more than 100 Premier League games during his time at Aston Villa.

Given that Weimann is the top striker for the Austrian Rovers in the Championship this season, his background is obvious.

Weimann has not only scored six goals himself, averaging one every 230 minutes, but he has also assisted his teammates in scoring two more goals.

Weimann has made 29 appearances for Rovers during their Championship campaign, except from missing five games due to a knee injury.

Simon Middlehurst, a Blackburn Rovers supporter on Football League World, thinks Weimann’s background has been crucial to Blackburn this year.

In Blackburn’s part of Lancashire, the Austrian’s incredible goal against bitter rivals Burnley has also won over many supporters, and the Rovers supporters have grown to love Weimann’s fervent celebrations.

According to Simon, Weimann has stepped up when Blackburn required someone to oversee a game on other occasions.

Simon told FLW, “I think Andi Weimann deserves another contract,” in response to the question of whether Rovers should try to retain the 33-year-old at Ewood Park.

He has shown up when we have needed someone this season.

He has come up with some very significant goals and has come up with something when we needed someone to come up with something.

Because of the goal he scored against Burnley close to the beginning of the season, he will also be a hero.

“He has also come up with a goal while playing for Bristol City on a few occasions.”

Simon went on to stress how Weimann’s vast Championship experience, especially in comparison to the rest of the Blackburn squad, was keenly felt in the dressing room.

FLW’s Blackburn fan pundit fears that with the Venky’s track record of underwhelming investment, the squad at Ewood Park could get younger in the coming seasons.

Simon therefore saw the value of retaining a seasoned campaigner like Weimann as being even more crucial.

“He has Championship experience again, so I think he deserves another contract,” Simon continued.

“Obviously, we’re going to rely on a lot of young players coming through next season, and he’s that old head in the changing room.”

It is unquestionably worthwhile to have him around and to provide him that one-year contract.

“He has been a good addition to the squad this season, so I think it would be worth having for another season.”
