Johannes Hoff Thorup on contract discussions
Although contract negotiations have stalled at Carrow Road, Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has acknowledged that they are still on the table.
Given that Angus Gunn, Emiliano Marcondes, Onel Hernandez, and Jacob Sorensen are all nearing the end of their contracts, a number of important Canaries will be free to depart the team this summer.
However, Thorup and Ben Knapper haven’t spoken about those players’ circumstances since before the winter transfer window ended, and they will wait for the right moment to do so.
“I know it’s an ongoing process for Ben and agents and players, and he will probably take care of that,” stated the Danish player. However, we haven’t met recently—not in the past month or so—to discuss it.
“I think it’s likely that we’ll notice that again in a few weeks and see what we can do about it. However, there must be a careful balance struck between not interfering too much with players’ performance and other factors.

“You have to find the right timing to start discussing situations like that, but of course also be very clear in your own decisions.”
Although the 36-year-old is aware that uncertainty is a natural part of life for those athletes, he is requesting that they set it aside in order to concentrate on their short-term football results.
He went on to say, “To be honest, every player thinks about it,” Sometimes playing football is a bizarre life, and the five to ten players in the changing room right now probably have no idea where they’re going to end up after the summer.
Are they going to remain here? Are they going to depart? Where are they going? You never know what other clubs might offer. You most likely spend half of your football life living out of your luggage.
“That seems a little odd, so I believe players are considering it—and they ought to. But since it’s probably beyond your control, I also believe that students should learn how to prevent it from hurting their performance.
“You just have to focus on the stuff you can control.”
