Former Birmingham City man set to be offered Glasgow Rangers job

Barry Ferguson, a former Birmingham City favorite, is apparently being considered for the managerial position at Glasgow Rangers after Philippe Clement was fired from the Ibrox hot seat following a dismal loss to St Mirren.

The defeat against Stephen Robinson’s club was the last straw, and Clement left, even though CEO Patrick Stewart had previously stated that he would support the manager, pointing to his Europa League victory this season as a major contributing reason.

Ibrox legend Ferguson will be given the opportunity to lead the team until the end of the season, according to Record Sport, as the team looks for a temporary successor.

As negotiations between Rangers’ decision-makers and the former captain continue, a deal might be finalized within a day. Ferguson has previously managed League Two team Clyde in June 2014, therefore this would not be his first managerial experience.

He guided them to the promotion play-offs following a mediocre debut season, but Queen’s Park defeated them in the championship game. He had a difficult season after that, which put Clyde in danger of relegation. According to the Daily Record, he was able to revitalize his management career at Kelty Hearts.

“Many of Birmingham City‘s summer additions have impressed me. Tomoki Iwata, who has scored a few respectable goals, was acquired from Celtic. Jay Stansfield, who was on loan from Fulham last year, was acquired by them for £15 million.

He can score goals. Goalscorers are essential if you want to advance out of these levels, and Birmingham has plenty of them.

They’ve been on Sky, and I’ve seen them a couple times. I’ve been rather impressed. Therefore, I believe that the Birmingham supporters will be expecting them to be promoted this year given the amount of money that has been spent. “I think the owners are acting in a way that contradicts their statements. They’re certainly investing in the team and they’re investing into the stadium as well.
